JACKSONVILLE – Hardhats and tractors will be a common sight at Jacksonville Medical Center for the next few months as work continues on a new medical office complex.

JMC broke ground last month on the complex, which will free up space in the main building and increase the total available office space.

New offices are needed as JMC recruits more physicians, said Ashley Downing, director of marketing and public relations.

“We’re just trying to get more specialty physicians in this area, where people in our community don’t have to go farther; they can find that right there in our town,” Downing said.

The project should be completed within six to eight months, according to a JMC press release. The new complex, just in front of the main JMC facility on Pelham Road South, will have 20,000 square feet of office space.

“We are striving to meet the needs of our community and the surrounding areas,” CEO Roger Collins said in the press release.

The hospital is also expanding its parking lot and refurbishing the cafeteria and patient waiting areas.
