Officials have released the name of an Ohatchee woman killed in a three-car accident on I-20 near Oxford on Sunday.
Beatrice Masto, 55, died when the 2004 Ford Escape she was driving collided with a 2002 Ford Explorer that had skidded across the highway’s grass median into oncoming traffic. The accident occurred during a downpour and police partly blamed the weather.
Two adults and two children traveling in the Explorer were transported to Regional Medical Center: Erin Chan-dler, 29, Kerry Chandler, 24, Tatum Price, 8, and Shannon Price, 11, all of Amarillo, Texas. Two passengers in the Escape, Arleta Highfield, 71, and Rebecca Allbritton, 51, both of Ohatchee, were also transported to RMC. The driver of the third car, Kathleen Morris, 52 of Birmingham, was slightly injured but not taken to the hospital.
A spokeswoman at RMC said no information was available about the condition of Erin Chandler and Allbritton. Kerry Chandler, Tatum Price, Shannon Price and Highfield were all treated and released.
Police said this was the sixth accident and second fatality since April on the stretch of I-20 from Talladega County to the Georgia line.
